Shahrisabz, formerly Kesh, is one of Central Asia's oldest cities. Located 80 km south of Samarkand, it is the birthplace of Amir Timur. Its Timurid monuments and historic center are protected by UNESCO.
From Alexander the Great to the Timurid Empire, Shahrisabz has been a center of power and culture. Timur built the grand Ak-Saray Palace, symbolizing his might. The city’s Persian name means "green city".
Today, ruins and mausoleums preserve that splendor.
Local crafts include exquisite embroidery, rugs, and tubeteika caps. The region's award-winning wines reflect its rich terroir.
